Overview of LiteOn/Sony DVD-Writers
This page contains an overview of the myriad of LiteOn DVD burners and their rebadges. The following is a list of the various drive generations, the LiteOn drives that were created during each generation, and the various rebadges of those drives. Flashing within the same drive type: Firmwares can be exchanged with other drives of the same type (defined here as a group consisting of a particular model and its rebadges) without the need for any firmware modifications or special crossflashing procedures (though you may need to use FlashFix if you want to use an official flasher; most unofficial flashers, such as all of the ones found on this site, are already FlashFixed). For example, if you want to flash a GIGABYTE GO-W0804A with the firmware for a LITE-ON DVDRW LDW-851S, you can do so because they are both listed under "LDW-851S" and are thus the same type. Flashing within the same generation: Firmwares can be exchanged with other drives of the same generation, but you must follow the necessary procedure for crossflashing! For example, if you want to flash a LITE-ON DVDRW LDW-451S with the firmware for a LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-832S, you can do so because they both fall under the "2nd Generation Standard" category, but because they are not of the same type, you will have to follow the procedure outlined here. Flashing between generations: This will not work. Attempting to do so may kill your drive.
